Overview
AI JSON Redactor — Mask PII & Secrets for LLMs
Redact sensitive data from JSON before pasting it into ChatGPT, Claude, or any LLM. JsonDrift masks values by suspicious key name — password, token, api_key, secret — and by content, catching emails, JWTs, credit cards, phone numbers, and IP addresses. The structure is preserved so the shape stays useful, and everything runs deterministically in your browser.
Why redact JSON before using AI?
Pasting raw API responses, logs, or config into a chatbot can leak credentials, personal data, and internal details into a third-party service. Many teams are barred from sending customer data to external models at all. Redacting first lets you still get help debugging a payload without exposing the sensitive parts.
What it masks
The redactor works two ways. It masks any value whose key looks sensitive, and it inspects string values for patterns that are sensitive regardless of key name.
- Keys like password, secret, token, api_key, authorization, ssn, cvv
- Email addresses (keeps the domain for context)
- JWTs and access tokens
- Credit card numbers (keeps the last four)
- Phone numbers and IPv4 addresses
Deterministic and private
Redaction is rule-based and runs entirely in your browser — no model, no network calls — so the same input always produces the same masked output and nothing leaves your machine. The JSON shape is preserved (keys stay, only values are masked), so the redacted document is still valid JSON you can reason about or hand to an LLM.
Combine with clean and format
For the smallest, safest payload, pair the redactor with the JSON Cleaner to drop nulls and empty fields, then minify before sending to reduce token usage. The redactor handles secrets; the cleaner handles noise. Review the output before sharing — automated rules catch common patterns but can't know every custom field.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove sensitive data from JSON before ChatGPT?
Paste your JSON and the redactor masks secrets, tokens, and PII by key name and by content, returning valid JSON that's safe to share.
What does it detect?
Sensitive keys (password, api_key, token, secret, ssn, and more) plus emails, JWTs, credit cards, phone numbers, and IP addresses in values.
Is the redaction reversible?
No. Masked values are replaced with placeholders and cannot be recovered from the output, which is the point — the original secrets never leave your browser.
Does it use an AI model?
No. It uses deterministic rules and runs locally, so it's private, repeatable, and safe for sensitive data.
