Overview

JSON to TypeScript — Generate Interfaces from JSON

Generate TypeScript interfaces and type aliases from JSON samples automatically. Paste an API response, OpenAPI example, or config snippet and get export-ready TypeScript types for your frontend, backend, or shared package. JsonDrift infers nested objects, arrays, nullable fields, and union array element types from real data — faster and more accurate than hand-writing types from guesswork.

  1. Why generate TypeScript from JSON?

TypeScript's strength is catching mismatches at compile time. If your types drift from live API responses, you get false confidence. Generating interfaces from actual JSON grounds types in reality — especially valuable after backend changes or when integrating third-party APIs without official SDKs.

  2. What the generator infers

    • Nested object interfaces with descriptive names from keys
    • Array types from element samples, including union element types
    • Optional properties (?) when null appears in the sample
    • number vs string vs boolean scalars
    • export keyword for drop-in module files
  3. Workflow: sample → types → codebase

Capture a representative API response (success and error shapes if needed). Generate types, paste into types/api.ts, and import across your app. Regenerate when the API version bumps. Pair with JSON Schema validation on the backend for end-to-end contract safety.

  4. Limitations to know

A single sample cannot prove every field always exists — optional fields only reflect nulls in your sample. Unknown future fields are not included until you regenerate from richer samples or loosen types manually.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are optional fields detected?

Null values in the sample produce optional (?) properties in generated interfaces.

Can I name the root type?

Yes. Set the Root name field before generating.

Does it generate types or interfaces?

Nested shapes use interfaces; a type alias appears when the root is a primitive or array wrapper.

Is generated code uploaded anywhere?

No. Generation runs entirely in your browser.
