Overview

CSV to JSON Converter — Spreadsheet to JSON Online

Turn CSV exports, spreadsheet saves, and comma-separated files into structured JSON arrays ready for REST APIs, databases, Node.js scripts, and frontend apps. JsonDrift detects delimiters automatically or lets you pick comma, semicolon, tab, or pipe. Header rows become JSON property names; quoted fields and embedded commas parse correctly. Free, private, and instant — no upload required.

  1. Why convert CSV to JSON?

Business data lives in spreadsheets; modern software expects JSON. Converting CSV to JSON is the standard bridge when importing vendor files, migrating legacy exports, or feeding spreadsheet data into an API without a custom script.

  2. How parsing works

The first row (when 'First row is header' is enabled) supplies property names for each column. Subsequent rows become objects in a JSON array. Quoted fields support commas and newlines inside cells. Numbers and booleans coerce when the cell content looks numeric or true/false.

    • Auto-detect delimiter from the first line
    • Manual delimiter override for known formats
    • Optional header row for column names
    • Download ready-to-use .json output
  3. CSV from Excel and Google Sheets

Export from Excel as CSV UTF-8. From Google Sheets: File → Download → Comma-separated values. Paste into JsonDrift or upload the file. If columns split wrong on import to another tool, try semicolon delimiter — common for EU Excel builds.

  4. Data quality tips

Clean header names (no stray spaces) produce cleaner JSON keys. Empty cells become empty strings unless you post-process. For nested structures, CSV cannot represent hierarchy — flatten in the sheet first or use JSON as the source format.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the first row need to be headers?

By default yes. Disable the option to use column_1, column_2, … as keys.

Can I convert tab-separated files?

Yes. Select Tab as the delimiter or rely on auto-detect.

Are numbers typed correctly?

Integer and decimal strings convert to numbers. Other values remain strings.

Is upload required?

No. Paste CSV text or upload a file — both stay local in your browser.
